A tournament is to be played on knockout basis and if in any particular round an ODD number of players are left in the competition, one is promoted to the next round by lottery. There are n (n>=10) competitors in the beginning, then what is the number of matches in the tournament.

Dear,

you have said that there should be only odd no. of players in the game then suppose there are  3 players left now how can you decide the winner .as from here only one game is possible between any two and then one player will go out then there will be only 2 players left which is not possible, if you use lottery system then there will be again 3 playes left in the game.
so please explain the rules of the games then only i will be able to clarify your doubts.
