Here goes another one.......
This time a little more diff
A plane is ruled with parallel straight lines at equal distances of 2a.A needle ,2l long (l<a) , is thrown on the plane at random.Find the probability that the needle will hit any of the lines.
No options.Subjective question.

Nice question...i am not sure if this is right
let us assume the needle falls at an angle @ with the parallel lines
so the band or area it can be said to cover along 1 line=
2l|sin@|
now
for no intersection,
this band should lie within the lines
so P=2l|sin@|/2a
=l|sin@|/a
now @ moves from 0 to 2 pi continuously
so P=integral of(lsin@/a) from 0 to 2 pi
note the mod sign
so P=4l/a
edit
divide by the sample space(which is from 0 to 2 pi)
P=4l/a*1/2 pi
=2l/a pi

its tough to solve while having dinner widout pen,ink n paper but from seeing it i think it is 2l/a..is it write..

Yes,even i think its 2l/a..See,the needle can touch the line if it falls in a range of 2L above and below the line,i.e. a total distance of 4L...and sample space is 2a..so prob. is 4L/2a=2L/a..
