The number of ways in which the squares of a 8X8 chess board can be painted red or blue so that each 2 X 2 square has two red and two blue squares ???

The no. of ways in which 2 x 2 squares can be selected is 49. Because the no. of vertices which have four squares around it are 49. Now the no. of ways the four squares can be painted is 4 x 3 / 2 = 6. Therefore the total no. of ways that we can paint is 49 x 6 = 294.

the no of 2x2 squares are 7x7=49, each 2x2 square can be painted
with 2 different colours in 4 comb 2 ways ie 6 ways hence the no
of ways will be 49x6 =294 ways chandrasekhar
