dude one simple method:
draw the graph of y=IIxI-4I, and then the graph of y=a
and see where only one intersection point will be there, that will be the desired point :)

The ans I got is a does not exist,
a<0 no soln.
a=0 two solns.
0<a<4 four solns.
a=4 three solns.
a>4 two solns.
It becomes more easy if u plot the graph correctly.It will be like a W.

i m not confident still i m trying
IIxI-4I=a has only one soln is given
we know that it can always have 2 values of x for 1 a one +ve and 1 -ve.
but as it is given to have 1 soln and not 2
therefore x=0
putiing x=0 we get
a=4
tell me if i m right.

if a = 4, then x can be 8, or -8. or 0
|
