Inverse relations are the relations that give you the independent variable, provided the dependent one is known. I suggest that you take up R S Aggarwal or NCERT book and go through the chapter well. This chapter is very important for calculus also.

If f(x) = y is a function from A to B
g(y)=x is a function from B to A
then g is the inverse function of f
g=f -1
note that x=g[f(x)]

Inverse functions exist only if 'f' is onto and one-one(ie injective and surjective)
