A parabola is a figure in which the distance of each point from a fixed point is equal to its distance from a fixed straight line(in the same plane).
A path,or anything which has such a shape is called parabolic.

You must have read about equation of parabola in conic section. If the path a a body follows that kind of equation then its path is called parabola. For example when a body is thrown up making some angle with horizontal its path is parabolic.
