as per the brochure of jee 2009 it is given that syllabus for alkanes :Homologous series, physical properties of alkanes (melting points, boiling points and density), combustion and halogenation of alkanes ; and preparation of alkanes by wurtz reaction and decarboxylation reaction.but in all the books like arihant , grb etc so many preparations and chemical properties of alkanes are given so i want to ask whether is it ok to prepare for jee only if we do the things given in the sylabus by jee 2009??

Dear,
as far as organic chemistry is concerned every thing is interlinked. the syllabus given to u gives the outlines only. when u look at organic chemistry as a whole it contains about 100 reactions in total at ur level. these reactions are repeated in many ways under different chapters written in ur syllabus. for example, if alkyl halides on reduction gave alkanes then this reaction can be there in the properties of alkyl halides as well as in the methods of prep. of alkanes. now it is up to u that where u want to capitalize it.
so in my opinion it is the initial chapters of organic chemistry which should be given more emphasis than the advanced ones. if u emphasise more initially the things will be eased out for u afterwards as most of the reactions will be seen as repetitions and provide more and revision sort instead of creating problems. here the key is just take out one book (which is the best in ur opinion) and try to concentrate on it, have full faith in the writer, and go for it instead of wasting time with a confused mind and looking here and there.
IF U DO THIS THEN CERTAINLY " SAFALTA AAPKE KADAM CHOOMEGI"
