Analysis for AIEEE 2009

The questions asked in mathematics in this year's AIEEE were lengthy and conceptual. The level of questions can be compared with questions asked in Mathematics section of IIT-JEE. As compared to last year, this year the questions asked in maths were difficult. Unlike like last year the numbers of questions were only 30 questions as compared to 35 questions asked in last year. This in a way is an indication that the paper or level of AIEEE is inching towards higher level of complexity, since the amount of time remains same but the number of questions asked have reduced. The total numbers of question in AIEEE 2009 were 90, with 30 in each subject. This year there were no questions on Comprehension Type pattern. However, AIEEE examiners maintained the Assertion & Reason questions pattern and the questions on this pattern were more conceptual.

Distribution of Marks is also different from Last year, this year Total 30 questions in Mathematics 25 questions are of single choice and 5 questions are of Assertion & Reason Type. Marks distribution is also different from last year. Also ¼ negative marking is there. Question No. 33 (Code-B) is not clearly stated.

With respect to Chemistry, this year AIEEE chemistry paper was very well balanced and student with properly grounded concepts can easily score 90% & above marks. Eight questions asked out of 11 questions in physical chemistry portion were simple calculation based. On the other hand, inorganic chemistry had two difficult questions; however, 7 other questions were simply knowledge based.

In Organic chemistry, 4 out of 10 questions were based on basic concepts of organic chemistry. Other questions were directly based on certain named reactions viz. Cannizarro's reaction, Kolbe's Schmidt Reaction.

It is important to note that unlike Physics & Mathematics, all the questions in Chemistry were straight objective questions only. There were no Assertion & Reason or Comprehension based questions in chemistry. Distribution of Marks is also different from last year, this year total 30 questions in Chemistry out of which 24 Questions for 4 marks & 6 questions for 8 marks are distributed. Also ¼ negative marking is there.

Finally, with respect to Physics, about one third of the total number of questions have been asked from two chapters namely Thermodynamics (5 questions) and Electrostatics (4 questions). Seven questions have been asked from Mechanics. Each of the questions is conceptual and relatively easy. This year, no questions have been asked from Laws of Motion. Surprisingly, two questions have been asked from Experimental Physics, which is the portion of Physics which is usually neglected by teachers as well as students. The paper was overall easier and compared to last year's paper. Distribution of Marks is also different from last year, this year Total 30 questions in Physics out of which 24 Questions for 4 marks & 6 questions for 8 marks are distributed. Also ¼ negative marking is there.
