Best Ways to Remember Periodic Table Elements

For engineering entrance exams, it is very important to memorize the names & symbols of elements which make periodic table. As you all know that a periodic table contains 117 elements. So during the studies, it becomes very difficult task to remember all. Here I am giving some quick ways to memorize all the symbols and names of elements and recall them when required.

1) Listen and learn the famous song “The Elements” by Tom Lehrer. Music is the best way to memorize something and retain the information aurally. Besides, you can also assign a rhyme or another word to the element allowing you to easily recall the element. For instance, if you want to remember “iron” as the chemical symbol “Fe”, you can associate the word “Feeble”.

2) Another best way to remember periodic table is to divide it into sections and remember one section at a time. Always remember that memorizing a small amount of elements is more easier rather than remember them at all once.

3) Flash cards are another good way to memorize periodic table. Write down each of the elements' names and symbols on each flash card. Thereafter, review them regularly. Say them aloud as you review in order to help reinforce them in your mind.

4) To memorize the periodic table, you can different sentences with each word containing one of the chemical symbols. For e.g to memorize " "Helium," "Lithium, “Hydrogen, "Beryllium," "Carbon," "Nitrogen," "Oxygen" and "Flouride," remember this sentence "Happy Heather Likes Baking But Can Not Open Foil." Repeat this sentence numerous times until you memorize it. In this sentence, The beginning letter or two letters of each word contains a chemical symbol.

5) There are so many websites that have online quizzes to memorize periodic table elements. You can do practice placing the elements at the right place into the blank periodic table.

6) Last but not least practice regularly and give yourself enough time to memorize the elements.
