Chicken Soup For IIT Soul
Here is a short, true story about an IIT aspirant just like any of us and how his life got shaped :
its self written
his name was Raghav, a typical mumbaite, and a typical IIT aspirant as well, accustomed to studying on his own since the time schooling began, raghav tried to begin his IIT preparation on his own, in those days, there was no AIEEE and no BITSAT (this isnt too long back, maybe 7 or 8 years ago)..IIT Bombay was his ultimate goal, and his preparations were in proportion to his aims, he studied more than anyone else that he knew and had an amazingly analytical brain as well. this went on, he kept his energy and momentum till the D Day.he had floated through the screening which he commented was one of the easiest JEE papers he had solved.on the D Day, the JEE Day,he glided through the initial part of the paper but at the end he went blank, he cudnt attempt a chunk of questions at the end and certain sums that he knew he cud solve but needed time were also left out.dejected, he came out of the hall, analyzing how much he lost and how much he attempted, he figured there were slim chances of getting through, and even if he did, there were minimal chances of getting IIT Bombay. during those times, BITS Pilani gave admission on the basis of Board marks only the students who came in merit had a chance of getting something at pilani, being an IIT Aspirant, there was no way he cud come in merit, and his expectation was true, he got 95% PCM and some 87% Aggregate, drop was impossible cuz he feared going through the same trauma again. sulkingly, he joined a mumbai college, but slowly n steadily his disappointment of not getting into IIT was transformed into anger and commitment, he wanted to prove to the world that even without being an IITian he cud achieve something BIG....he started to prepare for GRE n GMAT (same portion) from his 1st year at college, along with that he got excellent CGPAs.bringin straight A's.this went on till the last day of college, he got a phenomenal 8.7 CGPA and was 5th in College. he had a job at Infosys at hand which he cud join or reject in the next month after graduation. he rejected it and went on to give the GRE and the GMAT...still unsure whether to do MBA or MS...he was afraid whether he would go blank again and ruin his future, but he didnt, the anger of the not getting into Bombay, got him into Harvard(even without work experience), and it got him Yale for his MS....still unsure, he decided to go for the MBA n now, he workd as a Financing Head Of Colorado in Welsfargo (a renowned bank) in the states, not that it is something REALLY BIG, but had he got dejected and left hopes of doing something in the future becuz of one setback, he wud have been working at Infosys with hordes of other engineers...
the moral of the story is simple, like me, there are many who couldnt clear IIT or there are some which couldnt get thru a good rank in EEE or a good score in BITSAT, dont be sad, we keep listening to stuff like "success n failure are 2 sides of the same coin, failure is a new beginning, failures are stepping stones to success" and on and on....very difficult to implement. but what we can do is forget set new aims n realise them
