  Degree Of Freedom   Awaiting Review for Nickels

This table will help the students during examination.
 
Degree of freedom-
Independent motions possessed by a system or a body is known as degree of freedom.
 
  • For mono-atomic, diatomic and tri-atomic gas, translation motion is given in 3 directions.
  • For diatomic and tri-atomic gas, rotational motion is given in 2 and 4 directions respectively.
  • Vibration motion is given as zero.
From kinetic interpretation we observe that kinetic energy per degree freedom=1/2RT
 
  • IN THE INCREASING ORDER OF DEGREE OF FREEDOM, GAMMA DECREASES.
