E-StoreDISCUSSION ON THIS YEAR OPENING AND CLOSING RANK OF IIT JEE 2009
opening and closing rank of this year JEE have finally come .Those who have no idea can see the same old site " jee.iitk.ac.in or jee.iitb.ac.in etc". And now lets have some discussion on it. Well firstly few people will have trouble in knowing which code stands for which course. i cannot provide the whole list but let me tell some popular codes.
K : iit kanpur
W : iit guwahati
M : iit madras
D : iit delhi
B : iit bombay
G : iit kharagpur
and the number means
10 : computer science 4yr btech
09 : civil eng.
24 : mechanical
11 : electrical engineering
So w11 means electrical engineering in IIT guwahati.
now for those who want the full series of code can have a look at the counselling brochure or can surf google.
DISCUSSION : it seems that almost everyne has used the previous years opening and closing rank as the means to fill choices just like me.
Now there are few main difference
1 : CLOSING RANK OF CS 4 yr BTECH
Well there is a dip in closing rank of all IIT especially delhi. I guess people don't want to compete Nitin Jain. The last yr closing rank of IIT delhi CS was 112 while this year it is 154. For kanpur the dip is from 148 to 181. I guess due to high selection in Bombay zone the closing rank of Bombay CS has experienced a small dip from 76 to 86.
People generally don't go for IIT Kanpur and IIT madras thought they are among the top 5 for reason that they are distant. Madras is generally prefered by South people while Kanpur by UP-Bihar-Jharkhand guys and gals.
Bombay being a metropolitan city and having international airport and facilities are more approached by Foreign companies is what the student think.
2 : CIVIL GETS A SHIFT
Well it is not that AIR 10 is taking civil but yet civil is getting weightage : Thank GOD people are seeing TV and reading paper nowadays. Civil package is rising while IT is not doing well.

IIT 2008 2009
bombay 1622 1413
delhi 1851 1678
kanpur 2170 1984
madras 2169 2084.
So the rumour that civil shhots up is not that true. The difference is not more than 200.
3 : Mechanical Increases
There is a very small difference in mechancial closing rank with that of bombay remaining same.
For bombay the closing rank is 494 for both years. And to add to this news a boy of rank 72 has taken mechanical 
4 : Electrical increases
Electrical also increases with closing rank as

Delhi 245 241
Kanpur 444 416
Madras 286 310
A person with AIR - 8 took IIT BOMBAY electrical
Conclusion : IIT BOmbay was the most demanding IIT thanks to the highest qualification from the zone. We will have people with high grey matter roaming in powai . Electrical and mechanical were practicall y with same demand but the civil got an increment of 200 so the old thinking that " kuch nahi to civil to mil hi jaayega has been attacked with hardly any 2000s getting civil in kanpur,bombay,madras,delhi.
Compuer though decreased remains the most demading Course cause everyone knows " recession kaha 4 yr rahega " .........
