Drop in IIT courses cutoffs.

JEE Advanced , academic , Results , Counselling and Admissions

This year (2012), the cutoffs for various courses at IITs has fallen. Why? I don't know! Possibly because IT-BHU has been convertrd to IIT(BHU). Here are some stats :

This year's AIR 1052 got 4 year Chemical Engg. at IIT-B in 1st when the cutoff last year was AIR 937.

I (AIR 2631) got Industrial Engg. IIT-KGP in the 1st list and the cutoff last year was AIR 2590.

My friend, AIR 3013, got 4 year Metallurgical and Material Sciences at IIT-M in 1st list and the cutoff last year was AIR 2650.

Incredible, isn't it?

You are right in your obsevation. My brother with below 2000 rank missed BHU CS B.Tech. We thought he will get it. Last year it closed around 2500. I think next year you will see similar effect again because BHU was not even listed as IIT in counselling option and it must have created some hesitation for many.

This trend will continue till BHU branches start closing before their counterparts at IIT-Guwahati. Eventually, the BHU cutoffs will settle just after the roorkee cutoffs for each branch. Students have also been favouring metro IITs in the recent past. IIT B & D have raced ahead of IIT K. Quite a few branches at IIT-Madras have closed before IIT-Kanpur this time.

I was anticipating the closing ranks for CSE to drop this time, and was amazed to see that their demand has increased even more, with Bombay closing at an astonishing 72. Can anyone tell why?No doubt the closing ranks have dropped because of the IIT tag BHU has recently attained. However I feel that even with the tag, in the rankings, BHU will remain behind Roorkee.
