Exams over..Now what?? - How to choose a college..
Hey friends,
Almost all ur exms must have been over by now, or maybe only 1-2 more exms are left. Its about time now you start attending counsellings, going through college rankings and start worrying about which college to join, which college to give preferance over the other etc... And its the most hectic and problamatic phase of these competitive exms and its important that you make the correct choice as this one choice is gonna decide your career, ur future and all.
In this article, I will try to help u by ranking the colleges.
See, first of all, U CANT give discrete rankings to colleges. Every college has its pros and cons and its really difficult to assign ranks to them, thats why almost every ranking differs for a particular college.
In this article, I will arrange the colleges in leagues and leagues will be arranged in the order of priority. Colleges in a league are almost at the same level it is safe to choose any of them.
League-1 (Top priority colleges)
1. 7 IITs (NOT the new ones)
2. BITS-Pilani
I did not include new IITs here becoz brand name alone doesnt matter. A new college requires some time to get established. Same goes with goa and hyd campuses of BITS.
League-2
1. New IITs
2. BITS Pilani-Goa and Hyderabad campuses
3. IT-BHU
They are kept above other colleges, becoz brand name matters to some extent. These colleges have great reputation in India and abroad. BITS' 2 new campuses deserve to be here becoz they are not seperate colleges, they are the campuses of centralized BITS-Pilani university. U will get degree of BITS Pilani only from these 2 campuses also.
League-3
1. Top NITs ( Warangal, surathkal, trichy, allahabad)
2. IIIT-Hyderabad
3. NSIT / DCE
4. Anna University (dont know much about it, but from what i heard, it deserves a place in this league)
5. ISMU Dhanbad (Only for mining and its core branches)
Although I have kept these colleges in the same league, I wud still prefer NSIT, IIIT-H over NITs. They might be at the same level in India but the reputation of NSIT, IIIT-H abroad is a big asset to these colleges.
League-4
1. BIT-Mesra
2. Thapar
3. PEC
4. NITs(Bhopal, Jaipur, Nagpur, Calicut,kurukshetra)
5. DAIICT
6. HBTI Kanpur
7. IIIT-Allahabad
8. Remaining NITs
I have enlisted 9 NITs till now. I dont have a very clear idea abt the remaining NITs, so I cant compare them with other colleges but I guess they are still better than League-5 colleges as they are NITs and govt colleges.
League-5 (Join only if U R not getting the above colleges)
1. Manipal
2. VIT
3. JSS, Noida
4. JAYPEE, Noida
5. IP University, Delhi
6. SASTRA
And all other colleges which u find holding ranks 50-100 in rankings.
I want to make one thing very clear, that these are NOT rankings. This is just comparison of colleges, differentiation to see which colleges stand at the same level. Generally, almsot every effort of this kind(rankings and all) is criticised by ppl. Many wont agree to me, their choice. I have written this from my experience, from the knowledge i cud get from my friends studying in different colleges, different forums, different rankings etc... and I just briefed everything here for ur help.
All the best. :)
