How to prepare for JEE   3 Nickels awarded!
Tagged with:          [Post New]posted on 30 Jul 2007 12:53:59 IST
Hey guys, I found out this article in one of the sites, and its damn good. Just check this out.

Many of u have just entered 11th.for u first thing I can say is get some knowledge about what is IIT JEE. By previous sentence i don't mean know the name of IIT JEE from somewhere. You should have a full detail about what IIT ask in its exam and what it does not ask. Many students prepare misguided without knowing about JEE and AIEEE. I'll not give much lecture about IIT or AIEEE. You should discuss about experience of IIT JEE with your seniors, who are in IIT or who prepare well but missed by a shit "luck". The person of both category will guide you well, as IITians know well about their struggle and those who missed the shot must have analysed why they failed and how they miss the chance.

All of you first note that uptill 10th life was easy and well guided by experienced teachers of schools. Syllabus of 10th was very small and easy when compared to that of JEE. For JEE or other engg. exams you will find less people to suggest you well, not even i'm around good. Also, syllabus for jee is above 12th level and u have to cover it much before ur 12th boards. So, naturally competition is tough.

The preparation of IIT is three step process.

Step 1:
First of all when you start preparation of JEE in each subject you should start reading the chapters with some low level books. Low level books are not exactly low level. They are 11th or 12th std prescribed books. Concentrating just on 11th and 12th board. No high level fudas of jee. These books gives clear concept, easy understanding and covers the gap between 10th level and IIT level. Also, it takes very less time to know about the topic. Ideally if the book you follow for low level concept is R.S. Agarwal or NCERT, then two or three months is enough for covering 11th class book. Remember you have to finish seven or eight books to know IIT level concept just in maths. So, you can easily calculate the time required by you to finish the 11th and 12th books of R.S. Agarwal. Also, it needs much more time to solve the problems of IIT level books than that of low level books.
Solve each problem from such low level book with lots of enjoyment and speed. Much depth in theory is not needed for solving problems of such books. Theory given in it will be enough.
This step is to make u familiar with the syllabus of 12th. So, that u can attempt problems of IIT level book in next step. Problems of IIT level are generally interlinked (means problem will be asked in one chapter and needs the concept of several chapters).

Step 2:
This is the most important and time taking step in the preparation for JEE. As till now u have become familiar with the syllabus of 12th, u will feel less dificulty in knowing deeper concept and interlinked problems (problems which needs concept of more than one chapter). For this step I will recomend without any hesitation Arihant publication books, namely:
1. Amit M. Agarwal ? Calculus (Differential), Calculus (Integral), Trigonometry, Vector & 3D-Geometry.
2. S.K. Goyal ? Algebra, Co-ordinate Geometry.
You may see these book initially before starting preparation for JEE, for making your time chart in months.
Remember, these books are very well balanced for JEE. Also, for other engg. there are other books in the market also, like TMH's "Mathematics for IIT JEE" or "IIT Mathematics" by Asit Das Gupta. But, they are not well balanced.
This step will take near about 1 yr. or more of your preparation time. You have to cover this step one-two months prior to your 12th board.

Step 3:
This step will help in revising the study of Step 2.
In this step you have to solve the collected problem set of iit like "Problem in Mathematics" by S.K.Goyal or Mock papers, Sample papers, Simulator papers of FIITJEE, Bansal. This is not a long step if you have a good memory.
Main motto of this step is to revise the strategies used by u in solving problems in various chapters during step 2.

I'll give another alternative of this step in next few paragraphs. Chose the best you suits.
These are the three step to prepare for JEE. Main problem with students is that they spend much in step 1. More than a yr. try to cover as much fast step 1 as possible. If you are genious minded, then it may result in deciding good and bad branch or college for you in IIT.

In step 3: I mentioned about the alternatives, this alternative starts with step 2. Whenever you solve a chapter in step 2. Mark some question which you want to solve in future for revision. After completion of a chapter mind knows best about the specific chapter just finish. So, you can plan how u can revise the chapter later by solving less problems. Mark such problems. Such problems are either those which drains more energy of yours in solving or which is unsolved by u or which are solved by u, but u think problem is very good. When you solve such problem again in step 3 after 9 or 12 month, this time it will take less effort to give you the same level in less time.
You may use the above alternative of step 3 in step 2 also. Means, while solving the problems in step 1 from low level books. It will help you in preparation of 12th board. you know very well,
How
Earlier, I used to suggest students for using step 1 and step 2 chapter by chapter. Means, study low level concept of a chapter by a low level book, then start step 2 for that chapter by iit level book. But, it need a guide for you to help in inter-linked problems.
If you are joining some coaching or have joined, then use chapter by chapter method, it will help you more. But, u have to be advanced, know about the low level funda of chapter before being discussed in the class.
