MURDER*-----(learning techniques)   Awaiting Review for Nickels
Tagged with:       [Post New]posted on 28 Mar 2008 01:06:37 IST
"Murder" a study system in a well-planned manner to come out a winner after exams

Murder is a study system systematically to exorticise all ghosts related to exams and come out a survivor with a silver or gold coats of arms

By following a well planned stratergy for academic enhancement while studying to stave off the peer pressure
Murder stands for 6 elements -  1. mood
                                              2. understanding
                                              3. recall
                                              4. digest
                                              5. expand
                                              6. review
if practised in letter and spirit and in that order, with memory enhancement techniques can help any learner study well and keep exam stress at bay.

Understanding is the key factor to learning. After studying the unit, one must stop and put what has been learnt into one's own words for a total recall. Then digest what was not understood the frist time and reconsider the information .Expand the topic by breaking it into subtopics of important points and then fill up the gaps with details.Last in the process is a Review of the stratergies that have helped in understanding and retaining information in the past and applying these to current studies.

tips for systematic plan for memory enhancement -:
*Rehearse- what you need to study i.e read, write, hear, and see.Behavioural Science researchers say that rehearsing  means imbibing information in the brain using all your sensory organs like Reading with the mind,Hearing with the ears and Seeing with the eyes. This intensifies the learning input four times over. One rehearsal amounts to four revisions.
*Recite-: i.e describe or explain aloud-any topic -in own words, teach or explain the information to someone else or just speak into a recording device.
*Visualise-: in order to engrave a lasting impression in your mind.

Research studies reveal that learning is directly related to retening power. The amount learned and the retained at a scale of say 100 starts falling down steeply as the time since learning increases.
for example, what we learn as 100% at a particular time remains so only 20 minutes, goes down to 75% after 1 hr it furthur sinks to 50% and after  eight hours only about 25% reamins retained. The 75% loss amounts to the amount forgotten in the process of forgetting. That is why revision is so crucial. Each revision will help you retain about 25% of what you read. So revision is the key to success.
