My Luck Story
An interesting thing had happened with me just a few days ago.
The clock had already struck 12:00(midnight) and i was awake doing Conics by my bedroom window. Just then, I heard a sharp hooting sound somewhere outside in the darkness...and the next moment, i see a pair of highly penetrating, shining black eyes staring at me...heehee..it was none other than the Tyto alba, a spotted barn owl !! I was completely stupefied by its sight...our eye contact lasted for almost a minute or so and with one final hoot, it flew far away into the pitch black woods. It was an absolutely majestic experience, even beyond my scope, to put in words. Yet, the thought of seeing an owl disturbed me, as they are known to bring bad luck...not that i'm too superstitious. However, it soon washed out of my head as I turned on the radio. I was switching the stations and stopped at one of them, hoping for some good song to be played, but the RJ(radio jockey) was asking a silly contest question and the person giving the right answer would win a Shahid Kapoor autographed Audio CD, of his newly released movie 'Kaminey'. Frankly, i'm not a big Shahid fan, but i tried my luck...and the next thing i know is that i have won the CD!! I was really surprised and went off to bed still pondering over my win. The next day too, I answered another question on the radio and won couple tickets for the movie Kaminey!! These successive 'LuckY' victories really made me look back on what had happened the previous night...after all did the nocturnal owl bring bad luck to me??
...Definetely not! Infact it seemed as if it had blessed me with some sheer luck and gone away to fulfil its own destiny...
The next day was Navroz or Pateti, the Parsi New Year and i happened to meet my childhood friend Parzaan's great-grandma during lunch, in their huge ancestral home. She was telling us all children that back in her times they used to buy a big tin of cooking oil just in Re.1, which was used to make the traditional Parsi delicacy Dhansaak( my favourite!) and other sweet-meats for the entire family, every year during Navroz. Her words made me smile and i thought that in just 2 SMS's of Re.1 each, i got an authentic Audio CD and two multiplex tickets of a Super-hit movie!!
Don't you think she would envy me (till a certain extent), if i told her about what all i had got, in just Rs.2, that too almost nine decades after her time!?
Haha..i know she wouldn't believe my words...
I know what she would say...,"Maybe you just got lucky, dear..."
So folks, do forward this article to all those known to you, who are superstitious and who think that only bad luck hits hard on their face...for it isn't true at all times...for me the rates do matter...but i could overlook them if more people get the message behind this article...heeeheee...
And to any of you who is a Parsi, a heartiest Navroz Mubarak from my side!!
