GREAT IDEAS START HERE!! NEW PHYSICS CLUB DETAILS AND ADMISSION QUESTIONS:   2 Nickels awarded!
Tagged with:    [Post New]posted on 24 Sep 2008 23:57:50 IST
WELCOME TO THE NEWEST PHYSICS CLUB IN GOIIT.:

U all might be really intersted to start things about. But here's the catch.
about 40 students are willing to participate, but only the top ten will be selected for the first admissins.

out of these the top 2 will hold key positions along with me in the running of the club.
For effective selctions the grand questions are:
1.flames produced by burning substances vary in shape with varying gravity.(T/F).
2.fully Pure water can turn into ice on lowering temp.(T/F)

3.Keplers Laws are truly valid in: a)parabolic orbits b)elliptical orbits c)circular orbits d) b&c both.
 4. a lens is cut in 999 parts and odd numbered parts are thrown away keeping the original positions of remaing parts fixed, no. of images that can be seen are:
a)999
 b)499
  c)500
  d)1
  e)infinite

5.how much do u think u would have scored?
a)5
b)4
c)3
d)2
e)1
f)0
please answer the question in order to be elligible for entry into the club:
write your answers in the space below (through comments):
marks will be gven out of 5;

Results will be declared as soon as 40 entries have submitted.

1 T A flame on earth is cylinderical whereas in microgravity it would be spherical in shape

2 F State change depends upon pressure so it is not truth that pure water will definitely convert into ice on cooling

3 d Kepler Law:G M P^2 = 4 pi^2 a^3.This is valid for elliptical as well as circular orbits.

4 d

5 c

(1)T.......when g=0,the flame will b spherical....but on earth..all the
flames will b of same shape.........
(2)If the temp. is lowered to 0'C or lower........it will turn into
ice.....but when it is lowered above 0'C...it will be liquid.
(3)D...it follows elliptical as well as circular orbits.....
(4)d .....if the lens is cut parallel to principal axis, then only 1 image
will be formed.
(5)I think my 4 answers r corrct...including this answer.....i hav
doubt in 1....

(1)-IT IS TRUE BCOZ AS 'g' VARIES SO WILL AIR DENSITY.HENCE WHEN THERE IS LARGE 'g' DIFF. NOTICEABLE CHANGE WILL OCCUR.
(2)-IT DEPENDS ON HOW MUCH TEMP. IS LOWERED AND WHAT IS THE PRESSURE.THESE 2 FACTOR WILL DECIDE THAT WATER SOLIDIFIES OR NOT.
(3)-B IS THE CORRECT ANS A/C TO ME BCOZ BY THESE LAWS ONLY HE PREDICTED THAT ORBITS ARE ELLIPTICAL.
(4)-D CAN BE THE ANS.
(5)-INCLUDING THIS ANS I THINK ALL 5 r CORRECT.

1) True
2) False ... Temperature is not the only condition
3) d - the circular orbit comes under a case of elliptical orbits where the 2 foci coincide.
4) c 500 - ...499 pieces are left, and each lens part will form an image with rays of light passing through the gaps + 1 image formed when all rays of light intersect. = 500
5) c-3
