some useful points in chemical kinetics....
1) Rate law fr rxns involving parallel rxns....->
for example...
C2H5Br + KOH ----> C2H4 +KBr + H2O
also
C2H5Br + KOH -----> C2H5OH + KBr
in general...
A = k1 B (90%)............main rxn
A = k2 C (10%)............side rxn
rate = - d[A] / dt = k1 [A] + k2 [A]
= k1 + k2 (A)
% yeild of b = k1 / k1 + k2
% yeild of C = k2 / k1 + k2 ....so we can find the amt of B and C
2)Dpendence of the rate on species of other reactants...eg.
CH3COCH3 + I2 ---H+----> CH3COCH2I + HI
rate = - d [I2] / dt= k [CH3COCH3] [H+]
3) Negative order wrt to reactant / product...
2O3 ----> 3O2 , rate of the reaction = -1/2 d [O3] / dt = k [O3]2 [O2]-1
Thus order wrt O2 is -1....
the -ive order wrt to a substance indicates that the rate of a rxn decreases as the conc. of that subst. increases
