If 2 moles of HBr (or HI) is used for every mole of ether, the alcohol fragment will be converted to an alkyl halide.
  1. CH3-O-CH2CH3 + HBr ----> CH3Br + CH3CH2-OH
  2. CH3CH2-OH + HBr --->CH3CH2-Br
