Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) is a public university located at Katra in the Udhampur District of Jammu and Kashmir. It was founded in 1999 as a residential and technical university to offer scientific and technical education of the highest standards. The University offers science and management based engineering education of the highest quality in subjects of contemporary importance. The University has four Colleges consisting of twelve Schools which promote six Undergraduate and nine Postgraduate programmes besides Ph.D. and Post doctoral research fellowship.....................
Facilities
Seeing the needs of learners, Hostel, Library, Laboratories and Sports facilities have been properly managed by the university. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University has initiated Student Assistantship Programme (SAP) for professional courses to inculcate work culture and competitive spirit among the students and also to implant in them a drive towards excellence. Corporate Relations & Scientific Research Division coordinates R&D and consultancy activities facilitating training and placement for the students.
History
The University, SMVDU was established through an act of J&K Legislature in 1999 as an autonomous, fully residential and highly technical university of excellence with grant and continuing support from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra. It has the unique feature of being inaugurated by the President of India in the year 2004 and the first convocation addressed by the Prime Minister of India in 2008.

BECAUSE I SEE MNY STUDENTS GETTING RANKS ~40000-50000 IN AIEEE GO PRIVATE COLLEGE WID DONATIONS AND SPOIL THEIR LIVES AND PARENTS MONEY.........BUT SMVDU TAKES STUDENTS PURELY ON MERIT.........AND MOST OF THE STUDENTS ARE UNAWARE ABOUT ITS PROSPECTS AS IT IS LOCATED IN VISCERAL PART OF INDIA..........YOU JUST GIVE A VISIT HERE .............YOU URSELF COME TO KNOW ABT IT.....
