WHY ARE ETHERS USED AS SOLVENTS?????

Since ethers are relatively unreactive and are strongly polar (due to the lone pairs on the oxygen), they are commonly used as solvents for organic reactions. (Diethyl ether and THF, the Grignard reaction)
