distance of 200 m. find the retardation (assumed uniform) and time taken.
2.Velocity of a particle moving in a straight line is give by the expression.
V=t-3-t3-t2=t2-2t+2

Determine
(i) Acceleration and displacement after 4 seconds
(ii) Maximum/minimum acceleration.
3.A train starts from rest at one station and comes to rest at another station 2 km off
being uniformly accelerated for the first two thirds of the journey and uniformly
retarded for the remainder and takes 3 minutes to describe the whole distance. Find
the acceleration the retardation and maximum velocity.
4.Two ships are 10 km apart on a line running south to North. The one farther north is
steaming West at 20 km h -1 the other is steaming North at 20 km h -1 what is their
distance of closest approach and how long do they take to reach it?
5. A body starting from accelerates uniformly at the rate of 10 cms-2 and retards
uniformly at the rate of 20cms-2. find the least time in which it can complete a
journey of 5 km if the maximum velocity attained by the body is 72 km h-1
6. Two ships are 10 km apart on a line running south to north. The one farther north is
steaming west at 20 km h-1, the other is steaming north at 20 km h-1 what is their
distance of closet approach and how long do they take to reach it.
7.From the top of a tower a stone is dropped. If it covers 24.5m in the last second of
its motion, find the height of the tower. G=9.8 ms-2.
8.A steel ball bearing is released from the roof of a building. an observer standing in
front of a window 120 cm high observes that ball takes 0.125 s to fall from top to
the bottom of the window .the ball continues to fall and makes a completely elastic
collision with side wall and reappears at the bottom of the window 2s after passing
it on the way down. How tall is the building?
9.A clock with a metallic pendulum is 5 s fast each day at a temperature of 15o C and
10 s slow at temperature of 30 OC .find the coefficient of linear expansion of the
metal of the pendulum and the temperature at which the clock shows correct time..
10. It is required to hold equal charges q in equilibrium at the corners of a square.
Show that the point charge which will do this if placed at the centre of the square is
?q (1+2v2).
11. Three particles, each of mas 1 gm carrying a charge q is suspended from a
common point by insulated mass less string, each 100 cm long. If the particles are
in equilibrium and located at the corners of an equilateral triangle of side length 3
cm, calculate the charge q on each particle (Take q=10 ms-2)..
12. At a particular instant a particle traveling in a circular path of radius 0.5 m has a
speed V=1.6ms-1 and angular acceleration á=16 rad s-2.
a. find the acceleration of the particle
b. What angle does the acceleration vector make with a tangent to the
path?
13. On the flat surface of the disc of ?a? a mall circular hole of radius ?b? is made ,
with centre at a distance ?c? from the centre of the disc . If mass of the whole uncut
dise is M, calculate the moment of inertia of the holed dise about the axis of the
circular hole.
14. In Melde?s experiment it was found that string vibrated in 5loops where10 g were
placed in the scale pan. What mass must be placed in the pan to make the string
vibrate in 7 loops? Neglect the weight of pan.
15. A 3 µ F capacitor is charged to potential of 300 V and 2 F is charged to 200 V.
The capacitors are connected in parallel, plates of same polarity being connected
together. What is the final potential differences between the polarities are joined
together after the capacitors are charged, what amount of charge will flow, and from
which capacitor does it come?
16. There is a stream of neutrons with a kinetic energy of 0.327 e V. I f the half life of
neutrons is700 seconds, what fraction of neutrons will decay before they travel a
distance of 10 m?
17. From what minimum height must a block of ice at 0o C be dropped in order that it
