Stop Negative Thinking - 3 Tips to Stopping Negative Thoughts
Many people like the idea of positive thinking, and desire to utilize it in daily life. However, this idea, while seemingly simple, isn't always easy. There is often a pull toward fearful, negative, or otherwise self defeating thinking. How many times have you come up with a flash of inspiration or idea that you immediately dismiss as unrealistic, impossible, or dumb? It is important to clear the mind of negative thoughts so there is space for the positive ones. Here are 3 tips to stopping negative thoughts:
1. Release anger toward others. Start by allowing yourself to feel the full impact of your anger. Note the physical sensations, feel the negative energy that this puts into your body. Then make a conscious decision to release the anger for your own benefit. Allow that the person who wronged you did the best he or she could with what he or she had to work with, even if that was very little. Visualize releasing the person into the universe, to whatever God has in store for him or her, and understand you are also releasing your responsibility to punish this person. Know that you are exactly where you are meant to be, exactly who you are supposed to be at this moment. Begin to imagine potential benefits to your experience.
2. Quell negative thinking cycles. If you are having negative thoughts that seem to persist and repeat, imagine a giant red "X" through the image of the thought, and say "Stop" or "Cancel" to the thought. You can also try slapping your hand down on a table and switching your activity to interrupt the thought circuit.
3. Begin to imagine your goals, dreams, and desires in vivid Technicolor. Think about how it will feel, taste, smell, sounds, and look to achieve those goals and have those things. The more you focus upon positive thoughts, the more likely they are to manifest in your life, and the les space you will have for negative thinking.
