Take a Walk!
Take That Walk
A study done at the University of Michigan found improvements in attention,
focus and memory when people interacted with nature.
The review I read didn't specify which activities were looked at,
but taking a hike seems like a probable one.
The study also was done on older adults,
but will likely show the same results if repeated with younger people.
Speculation as to why picking wild berries or swimming in a mountain stream might be good for the brain? Some suggest that it is from the stimulation of the brain we get any time we do something different from the usual, or enter a new environment. Doctor David Williams, publisher of the heath newsletter "Alternatives," thinks it might also be because getting outside gets us away from polluted indoor air. Modern buildings are more airtight than ever and trap many pollutants that are brought in as well as those venting from carpets, paints and building materials.
