3. when f(x) transforms to af(x)

f(x)---> a f(x) ; a>1

stretch the graph of f(x). 'a' times, along y-axis

f(x)---> f(x)/a ; a>1

shrink the graph of f(x). 'a' times, along y-axis

graph 5 & 6, represent this,

graph 5: red = sinx , yellow = (sinx)/2 nd green = 2sinx

graph 6: red = |x|, yellow= |x|/2 nd green= 2|x|

4. when f(x) transforms to f(ax)
f(x)---> f(ax) ; a>1

shrink the graph of f(x). 'a' times, along y-axis

f(x)---> f(x/a) ; a>1

stretch the graph of f(x). 'a' times, along x-axis

graph 7 & 8, represent this,

graph 7: red = sinx , yellow = sin(x/2) nd green = sin2x

graph 8: red = |x|, yellow= |x/2| nd green= |2x|

NOTE: graph 6 & 8 will be the same !!!
