well...im not sure about MIT exaclty but i know the average american university costs about (US) $30 000 a year. or about Rs. 1 200 000....yes your school marks matter more there than the SAT. and if u find the JEE easy (or atlease relatively easy) then the SAT would be a breeze for you.

for people intrested in foreign education the entrences r different for different countries the most common exam being sat(scholastic applititude test ) it is conducted throughout the yr. if ur confident on u r english sat is a cake walk because in sat subjects are easy but english is tough .and in the exam the paper generally tries to get to know what is the impulse nature of the person ,so u r english shld ber stron as wel as reaction rate in the test u may hrdly get a 1min per question . mit and other coll of iv league take admission through sat but the score doesnt matter what matter there is u r 12th project and a innivative mind (but score would be the reference for them to see u r project) the fees for mit is $60k for tution only and 20k for accomodation per yr other esteemed coll also hav appreox the same fees struct . othe forign exams r ucas (for uk),ilets (for aus )etc rate me if u like my reply

SAT is easy except for the english.. me on the other hand, I find the english easy too since i have had exposure to english from an early age. i just gave the SAT subject tests on the 6h of october and giving SAT 1 in november.. maths all correct and physics 4 wrong.
u dont need to compare the level with our school and IIT.. its really easy since the level of schooling there is much simpler than ours.
ALSO THE AVERAGE FEES IS "NOT" $30,000 .. that is for the ivy league colleges.. ie. MIT, princeton, Harvard, Yale etc. the average tuition costs are $15,000 and there are many with 11,000 so around 6 LAC (Rs) an annum.
School marks dont matter !! chanalicious! u seem to be misinformed... They use both the school score And the Sat score and see if ur good in atleast one.. because it's never necessary for a brilliant student to perform well in school. it's just a formal obligation. however for top-end universities, letters of recommendation from teachers are very important.. Personally i recommend entering as a freshman undergraduate and pursuing Bachelors from a normal if not Ivy league university and then obtaining masters by transfer to a top university which is very easy since u can maintain a high GPA (a kind of grading system) in the college and as ur residing there u'll be considered for numerous scholarships too thus reducing costs.

u can do the SAT whenever. most ppl do it during their 11th/12th...the only criteria is that you are 14 or older.
spidey, dunno where u got that idea from, but as far as i know, your school marks do count. did i mention more than ur SATs? the reason for this is because 4 hours of a brilliant student's life does not have to reflect their true abilities. international students, scholarships are based on ur SAT scores. if uve got above 1200 then u are eligible for scholarship at say...purdue. but u cant get the need based scholarships that depend on how much your household income is.
generally, i think getting into an american university is easier than getting into IIT. the main thing you need to focus on (i feel), is paying the tuition fees and if its really WORTH going to the states to get the same degree you could get from india.

:( sorry not true...intl students have to actually pay more than americans. e.g. my cousin is at to some private university for a one year program pays just over $40 000. (per year)
you can get financial aid based on how good your marks are. they also take into consideration extra curricular activiteis like sports, volunteering etc etc. say ur really good at soccer, u could get a sports scholarship. (but its hard)
is 6 lacs worth it? hmmm...i think its better to do postgrad in the US.

no im not in the top graders of my school.. but hell i can beat the crap outta most indian and american students in SAT english and maths. they just see the best of both. so that if someone isn't good in one they can make out from the other. and yes int'l students have to pay a bit more generally. but once ur living there after joining the campus. ie living on campus.. u get scholarships easily.. so even though ull initially have to pay more, u can get back ur money. if you're good... and believe me most indians are better than even the best american.. only at master's degree level are the guys good.

okay...it really depends what university you go to...lets say you get into a state university and the tuition fees alone is $22 000 / year. then if u want to live on residence, add another $7000 / sem. (im not sure if this is per sem or year...should check in the university website) then for books and other things...lets put $2500 / yaer. multiply that by 4 = $154 000. now if u get a scholarship in the middle or you decide to live on your own in the 2nd/3rd year, minus ... 10 000 (thats an over estimate)
GRAND TOTAL: $144 000
better start savin up now! ;)
