I passed 12th in 2007,could not get into IITs,DCE/NSIT and my AIEEE rank was in 1 Lakh!
To be true,I NEVER STUDIED SERIOUSLY,I got 85% in 10th and 74% in 12th(Literally I studied for less than 2 months).I'm a developer in Gentoo Linux Community and an active member of topcoder,so most of the time i used to be on computer.
I took drop after 12th and because of some very personal reasons I was severely disturbed and didn't studied anything!
Now I'm in the same condition as I was 1 yr. back,So what should I do?
Should I drop one more year'(I wanna get COE @ NSIT,as I cannot live without computers) or should I take admission on paid seat.
There's no financial urgency @ my home.
Please help me!
I'm ready to work hard,forgetting everything,if it guarantees good branch @ DCE/NSIT.

Please take your precious time and help me!
Regards
Rahul Katyal

Frankly , you better get admission somewhere this year itself.Dropping 2 years doesn't seem right.
Instead , just work hard for DCECEE , which would probably be still a month away.Join some crash course or something.
What about your BITSAT , when is it?

As for paid seats and all , if you can afford it , try to go abroad.Or at least apply for some , and see if you get some kind of scholarship/financial aid.
I might suggest some course at BITS-Pilani Dubai Campus like an MSc , with which you could take a CS dual .But unfortunately I don't know the cut-offs.

dont waste another year,it will be annoyingly ridiculous to study again
same things for 1 more year.
think abt dis decision again, but if ur well determined and u hav the
caliber drop a year and study seriously, else enter anywhere u get a seat.

@monith and bits 360

But I haven't studied anything yet,Literally.

And do you think that it would be feasible to manage college studies and CEE preparation?

Frankly speaking, it is ridiculous dropping 2 years. People will look at you differently in any college, probably due to the age factor. It might affect your placements too. By the way, AIEEE hardly requires 2-3 months of sincere hard work, thats it. To say the truth, if you were not able to do it after a year long gap, you cannot rest assured that you will be able to do it next year. I am not saying that you are not capable, you are definitely capable, I have confidence, but the fact that you wasted a whole year will definitely keep ringing in your mind the next year, and you don't know about the competition next year too. We might have 10 lakh applicants next year, giving the AIEEE. I frankly suggest, that if you are that interested in going to NITs, then you should join some college, mind you, make a good choice now, it should be a good college plus it shouldn't be that strict, because you will be needing lots of holidays to prepare for AIEEE simultaneously. Moreover, it should be good enough for you to continue in case you make mistakes next year too.

However, there are still 7 odd days left, so I suggest you finish the following:

s and p block - thoroughly
organic chem - only from ncert (max 5 hours)
mechanics - only the basics
calculus - integration and differentiation alone - ncert will suffice
Solutions, Polymers, biomolecules and kinetics - easy chapters
Matrices and determinants
d and f block - learn only the table containing the elements and their configs
co ordination - just hybridisation of various complexes

Learn those, and you will be good enough for an AIR of < 30000, which means you will get something like metallurgy in a good nit. You can then do some sliding, and move upto something decent. But getting into an nit itself is tough, so feel proud. If you have good reading capacity, you might end up in the top 15000 slot as well, so work hard.

I felt like telling you all this because this is my second attempt, and I am doing this from a good engineering college, side by side. So I thought I should share the risks that you might face with you.

Best of Luck!

I think, u shouldn't waste the time, which u have right now. U should join some other college on the basis of Donation.Forget what u've done in past.Think abt. future.

Give this year's AIEEE your best shot first. We'll talk about this once this year's results are out, okay?

I find no use in dropping another year because it will make you more tensed the next year.

Better get admission in a paid university/college & start working hard.

It is good that you realised your mistake. Don't repeat it again.

Good luck!
