i would say it is not a good branch.......
but if it is done by iit then no harm as iit tag matters....
otherwise i would say avoid it.....................
look for civil instead,........
rest depend on your interest....
branch will not matter if you do mba so remem that too........
packages will be decent enough..
just the point is i feel course is bit odd to study......
rest your choice
best of luck
rate me if you like the ans

i am the best

See,no course or subject is good or bad,it depends on how you do it.If metallurgy was a bad subject then there would have been dearth of metallurgists in our country. Also the general concept that CSE is a good subject is also totally wrong. As I said before,if you do well in your subject and get good grades, nobody can stop you.On the otherhand if a CSE guy messes up with his grades,he will have an uphill task to progress with the number of CSE graduates in our country. So don't treat any subject as inferior or superior because each one of them have equal importance. So instead of getting into such rubbish discussion, just go ahead with metallurgy if you feel you will be able to perform well.

metallurgical engineering has good prospects in india as well as abroad
basically there is a very narrow line between mettalurgical/mining/material science
although these are very much different in their areas but basically the course is the same extraction and study of minerals and utilising them to produce some wonderful materials.
the steel industry, petrochemical industries, jewellery industry, and some good manufacturing firms would hire these engineers on a very illustrious package.
and if you are getting the branch in IIT then this is an outsanding oppurtunity for you
as the placements in IIT'S(except a few core companies) are irrespective of branch,so you can look forward to other fabolous carriers(if you score a good grade and have good analytical abilities).

ALL THE BEST!
