Hi ! I am currently in class IX. And surely I am looking forward to IIT JEE 2011.
I already have the following books: 1. Fundamentals of Physics : Resnick Halliday Walker 2. Problem in General Physics : Irodov 3. Concise Inorganic Chemistry : Lee 4. Organic Chemistry : Boyd Morrison 5. NCERT ( 11 and 12 ) (PCM)
Please advice me on what to do from now to qualify JEE with a good rank so that I get BTECH ( Computer Science and Engineering ) at IITs, considering that I have 4 years left for JEE preparation.
Please also list the books I should buy and read, keeping in mind that suites my pocket as I get Rs. 500 per month ( from my NTSE scholarship ).
More importantly, how many questions of JEE question paper should I be able to solve now ( I mean, in class IX ) so as to qualify JEE when I get to class XII.
Thanks in advance. Rates assured.
:)

CHEMISTRY-
Physical chemistry:- -R.C.Mukerjee (try to almost complete the book) -P.Bahadur -IIT guide by O.P.Agarwal
Organic chemistry:- -Morrison Boyd (selectively study...very nice book!) -Solutions to Morrison Boyd (IIT profs. make lots of problem from this book!!!) -IIT guide by O.P.Agarwal (problems only, don?t go in for theory)
Inorganic chemistry:- -IIT guide by O.P.Agarwal is sufficient.
PHYSICS-
Mechanics:- 1) Resnick Halliday Part 1(this book is superb provided you have somebody to explain it for you..)
2) H.C.Verma Part 1(very nice book..lots of conceptual problems ..but no complicated problems)
3) IIT guide by S.L.Gupta (one should try to solve the unsolved questions of this book)
4) I.E.Irodov (most of the problems are quite good.Leave heavy dose mathematical problems)
Electricity and Magnetism:- 1)Resnick Halliday Part 2 (this is very nice book provided you have somebody to explain the text for you)
2)H.C.Verma Part 2 ( problems are conceptual , but not sufficient)
3)I.E.Irodov (only those problems that are in your course)
Modern Physics:- 1)H.C.Verma Part 2 (modern physics portion should be done as much as possible)
2)IIT guide by S.L.Gupta (solved problems).
MATHS- -S.L.Loney for trigonometry, coordinate geometry and vectors (complete) -I.A.Maron for calculus (selected portions) -G.N.Berman for calculus (selected portions) -M.L.Khanna?s IIT guide is quite good for practice -Tata McGraw Hill (if time permits then and then only)
and questions depends on how u have practiced

Man...you really are dedicated !!!! But,to the best of my knowledge,in the ninth you just start the basics..so you may not be able to solve JEE problems now...simply because soo many concepts have yet to be covered.. Try giving as many Olympiads and other such competitive exams..it prepares you for whats in store-i'd started doing them, but stopped later...which i really regret now... And dont neglect school studies either!!!

man ur far ahead... gud to see ur determination.. widout some concepts of 10th its almost impossible to prepare for IIT but still with the concepts of 9th u can master mechics...it looks easy but requires a lot of practice with the help of mechanics u'll cover a major portion of the physics... i'm sure u cn do it on ur own if ur so determined. well chemistry can't be done without chemcial bonding... it has immense applications in each field. as par physical chemistry u can complete mole concept and gaseous state on ur own petty easily 4 maths jz whip out Trigo, quadratic, logarithms they have applications everywhere dats all frm my side

Do maths like hell.:) It doesnt require much concepts like phys so you will be able to do it.If u are done with class 9 trigo etc do class 10 and then class 11/12.Physics if u are done with NCERT of 9,do NCERT of 11th as the both have newtonian mechanics. Also you can do some easy yet important topics in chem like Stoichiometry and chemical bonding.

Starting your preparation from Class 9! Good! Don't get excited, dude! You have lots of time. Complete your course for Class 9 and 10 thoroughly. You should have complete command over the basics. Starting with tough books like R & H may prove to be disastrous. I would suggest that you start doing mathematics of Class 11 after you have completed your Class 10 syllabus. Doing even this much will ensure that you are a step ahead when the race begins. Just enjoy your studies. You are an NTSE scholar, that will help!

great dedication. but a word of caution- u might just complacent at a later stage- im saying this by observing a friend of mine- also his thinking has become limited. and u wld also then expect urself to answer every question that is given to u and that might just not happen. so instead of doing all this, what i suggest is that now that u know what u want to do, just concentrate on ur 9th and 10th- make ur basics strong; participate in all olympiads and exams to boost ur confidence. best of luck!!!
