Hello everyone! I have my CBSE Boards Maths Examination on the 20th. I don't have a good preparation. I failed all my Maths Preboards (though not by much). I have simply no command over any topic, but know the bits and spurts of every topic - a direct outcome of some haphazard attempts at learning Maths. In the month of February, I focused all my energy on Chemistry and Physics and didn't even touch Maths. Now I'm regretting it. Let me make the background of my misery a bit clearer - I am not sure if I'll pass in Physics. So it has become absolutely necessary that I pass in Maths, otherwise I will not be allowed to sit in the Compartmental Examination. And I don't want to do Class 12 again. I hope you can understand the kind of pressure I'm feeling right now. There is not time for me to even look at refreshers now. But I wanted to know if doing the NCERT textbook will be enough. Seriously, I have no clue what sort of questions are asked in the Maths Examination and going by the faithlessness shown by the CBSE towards the sample papers in Chemistry and Physics, I guess no one can be sure that the examination will be based on those. Could somebody please tell me what percentage of questions are asked straight out of the NCERT textbook? Can they ask questions beyond the textbook? Would it suffice if I practise from the textbook through and through - all the examples and solved exercises? Let me make it clear that all I want to do is to PASS the exam. I don't care about what marks I get as long as they are up and above 33. So please give your opinion with that aim in mind! I cannot get through the syllabus in these 8 days. So what I'll do is that I'll tell you people what topics I have done and what I haven't. Please guide me according to that, please! Relations & Functions (5 marks) - I have completed this chapter once from the textbook. Would it be enough? Inverse Trigonometry (5 Marks) - I have done a few questions from the textbook. I think it's a relatively easier topic. Will the textbook suffice? Matrices ( 7 Marks) - I have completed this chapter from the textbook. I need to revise it though. Once again, will the textbook stuff be good enough? I am really banking on this chapter to see me through. Determinants (5 Marks) - I have done it from the textbook once; need to revise it, banking on it. Continuity & Differentiability (8 Marks) - If I have ever 'studied' any topic in Maths all through the year, it was just this chapter. I completed it from RS Aggarwaal in December and, to my relief, haven't as yet forgotten it! Should I strengthen it further to ensure that I don't leak marks here? Applications Of Derivatives (13 Marks) - This is the chapter I'm working on right now. I have completed it uptil 'Approximation' from the textbook. But the important topic of 'Maxima & Minima' is yet to be touched. I really don't want to lose marks here, or I'll be in big trouble. Should I complete it from some Refresher also or is the textbook good enough? Integral Calculus (13 Marks) - This chapter is really the source of all my worries. I did it in December, but not fully. Now I am afraid I don't remember anything. I am thinking of revising it from the textbook only. Will it be enough? Areas Under Curves (6 Marks) - My ability to do this chapter will depend on the previous chapter. So please, please tell me a way to do the previous chapter quickly and effectively! Differential Equations (6 Marks) - My elder brother says that it's an easier topic. Is it so? But the same condition as above applies! Will the textbook be enough? Vectors (6 Marks) - There is something about vectors that I like very much. Though I haven't studied it exhaustively, I somehow managed to do all the problems in the Preboards correctly! I think I had better made it fool-proof! Three Dimensional Geometry (10 Marks) - No clue whatsoever. Cannot afford to waste my time this, can I? But the textbook has only 4 exercises and that makes me wonder if I can just manage to sneak it in. Is it the kind of topic that can be finished quickly and will hold me in good stead? Or does it require thorough drilling? Probability (10 Marks) - My elder brother says that it's an easy and scoring topic if one gets it from the beginning. Now, considering that I had a good command over it in Class 11, should I give it a try? Linear Programming (6 Marks) - I'll do this one and I'm sure that the textbook will suffice. I know I have asked too many things. But when you are in a condition like this, you don't really what you are talking about! As you must have noticed, my biggest dilemma is whether I should cover more topics and have a wider range to get those 33 marks from, or cover fewer topics but in such a way that I don't lose marks there. But even bigger a question is - IS THE NCERT TEXTBOOK GOOD ENOUGH? Please give your opinion! It's a very sincere and earnest request. Please help me develop a broad strategy. But, above all, please help me. You know how thankful I will be!

hello friend... i guess u r very very disturbed about it.....well, dont worry........frm wat i have seen its not dat u havent done anything...........i guess......except for probability, 3D, vectors and integration the textbook ncert is enough.........now, if u havent taken bio then u still have abt 7 days..which is quite enough.........first do those chapters which u havent done properly and DONT DO THE MISTAKE OF STUDYING FOR JUST 33 MARKS.........U HAVE ENOUGH TIME.......MAKE USE OF IT........AND DONT FORGET TO DO INTERGRALS AND ITS APPLICATION COZ IT MAY SEEM DIFFICULT BUT IF U SOLVE THE TEXTBOOK, IT IS QUITE ENOUGH. 3D is actually an easy topic.....i think u will be able to do it....even though u havent done it b4..........keep one day aside for 3D and probability. Lastly, make complete use of the time available and do not waste it..........u guys are more lucky than me ...........i have just 5 days gap for maths....... ALL the best!!

Remember Cedric. Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory.

Thanks ashgirl! It seems like you read the whole thing!!!
I think popular opinion suggests that the NCERT textbook will suffice!!! And I'm so glad that it has turned out that way!
If all I have to do is NCERT to at least have a reasonable command over a topic, then I see no reason why I should be studying for 33.33 marks only!
Thank you so much for sharing your opinion. You people have lifted a truckload of weight off my chest, seriously!
I'm so glad that I came across this website! Thanks once again!

Yup buddy.....just stick to NCERT.....and dont panic a bit.....
stop thinking anything else and just keep on doing NCERT only....dont go for any other book now.....
if you have full command over NCERT then atleast 85 marks are assured.....
do your best........
GOOD LUCK!!!!!
