Hai friends , I want to discuss one of the serious problems that students are facing and every new student fears while joining college............It's ragging................The trend goes on and on ....one batch rags the juniour batch ..........To revenge this this that juniour batch rags their juniours and the trend goes on and on........... One of my friends recently joined a college in orissa - Padmanava enginering college in ROULKELA--- He said me about the rules the seniors say them to follow-------------------Its very insulting-- One may say that RAGGING is for the good of juniours-------------YET can ragging be justified ? Hurting the self respect of juniours---------slapping them mercilessly------------Let me say a some things that most of my friends need to follow......... Wishing the seniors GOOD MORNING/EVENING.....................by bending 90 degree Going to college without wearing a belt THE seniors force the juniours to say all dirty sort of slangs, say them to enact dirty scenes and postures force them to watch blue films.....and abuse each other in all sorts of dirty slangs.Failing to do so they are slapped mercilessly (EVEN GIRLS ARE ASKED TO DO SO by senior girls) The seniors have keptime 10 - 11 in the night as ragging period where they rag the juniours .. and search a reason to simply slap them Force them to keep very short hair -- they just look like a joker..Girls are said to apply lot of oil in their hair and tie two plaits and many other such rules................And he says that ragging in NIT, Roulkela is much more serious SOME may say that we must bear these things ............becos after this we have our future waiting......... and yes some of the rules can be followed but others simple hurt self respect There are many students like me who value their self respect more than their life and CAREER.................and we would better leave the college or commit suicide than follow such dirty rules SO it is a request please say the names of those colleges with big names but have serious ragging environment....... And please say about ragging in NITs and IITs................please mention what the juniours are asked to do So that students can prepare ourselves or join elsewhere...................ELSE this demon of ragging will claim the lifes and careers of students like me............... U may say in IITs and some colleges rgging is mild but please say what the students I mean juniors are asked to do

what i know is that when my brother was in iitkgp 4 years ago, every night 5 students were selected who were reqd to go n take bath in chilly water (in winters) at 00:00 midnight and come back in 5 min . not meeting the norms meant facing serious consequences . another was ofcourse, very common, proposing a high temperamental girl in front of all the students. etc...etc...etc

Sounds bad, but it's worse in medical colleges. Does it happen only in hostels or even for day scholars?

hey i'm in IIT Bombay......ragging is totally banned and the system is very very strict about dis. Here it is really implemented. All seniors here help in every sphere of life......so u shud not worry if u r coming to IIT.
Juniors hv the ri8 to complain...so seniors r afraid of juniors. They will not get their degree if some one complains...
really NO RAGGING at all.

Hey mudit, u have just told about IIt bombay, is the scene similar in other IIt's as well coz i have heard some really bad experiences in iit
there is also this famous saying that ur iit experience is incomplete without ragging......in 90s iits used to be famous for ragging..........wat is the scenario now?
anyone who has read chetan bhagat fps and have heard about the incident of iit delhi(probably in 1997) will be summat scared like me...........
wat i can tell others that the ragging scene in DCE is very mild, not BAD for sure

i heard this frm my fren who was in IIT Delhi... sm guy was made to strip and they put a cigarette but to his ballz...
in another case in an NIT..,,, they made a guy masturbate in front of his seniors...
dono how much this is true.. mostly it is..

iiit hyderabad-no ragging
dce-quite a bit but not very harsh(myself in dce mech right now,hosteller)
nsit-no ragging as far as my information goes
