well one thing to understand is tat whn u get out of IIT .. u need not necesarily join the field u did engg in .. i wud say 50% ppl do sometihgn completely new .. this is the beauty of this place .. n thus ur salary .. the company u join wud totally depend on ur skills .. which u develop in IIT .. these skill need not just be academic, but others like public speaking and wat not ..

That is true everywhere and not only for IIT. Anyway I think he is talking of IITM and not IIT M.
