tag is a label made of cardboard or plastic or metal...but i don't think any iit gives such a thing but I'm no IITian so I don't know

well it wud be a tough deicision leaving the iit "tag".But if u are getting ece or cs or mech at Bits pilani then it is worth joining...

well....bits pilani is above new iits at present...so yes if u r getting bits pilani campus den nnoo doubt join it over joining iit gandhinagar!!!

i know many people who joined bits pilani campus over new iits!! even old iits wen dey didnt got a gud branch...so see urself..!!

@Mr. coyote->Correction .- there is no ece at pilani and goa campus! Its shud be EEE. @nn - A tag is given to dogs to track them if they r lost. y do u need it?

Well, there is a lot of criticism for the new IITs. Some compare them topolytechnics. Let me describe IIT Gandhinagar for you. They don't have anything that they can call their own. Flats have been rented as hostels with 6-7 students in each flat; food is sourced from some caterers. Classes are in another college (VCE), which was kind enough to give a part of its building for that purpose. Students are taken quite early in the morning to their campus by bus. Now, it is also an IIT, but I think recruiters are not so stupid to go by the word IIT alone when they know that such institutes are also called IITs. This is not how a University is supposed to run. So, finally, let me advise you to take BITS unless you are extremely desperate for the "IIT tag".

I dont agree with the way iit gandhinagar has been projected.

The facilities that are required for the running of an institute like this are all there.

The computers in the comp lab, the furniture, the books in the library, the sports equippment all are brand new and of very high quality.

As of now, the new IITs dont deserve to be called IITs(as my friends have described above) .However, the students studying there have the calibre to be called IITians.So, yes, it will give you the IIT tag which is so useful for MS\MBA admissions.However, you wont enjoy the facilities which old IIT students enjoy. The campus life will be horrible at makeshift campuses.But, the placements will be good.My advice would be to join BITS pilani if you are getting CS\EEE\MECH as it the next best thing to IIT(the old ones) and also has good placements\brand value.

also dont give egs that so and so left new iits and joined bits...there would an equal or even greater no, of students who leave bits for new iits

Its the wrong image that has been put ... The students live in a well furnished hostels which are even better than the old IITs ( they got solar lights as well). The hostels are inside the campus only and thus no bus is required for travelling. The labs are again equipped with the latest equipments which one can call the best when compared to any other institute in gujarat. One enjoys the same atmosphere as in the old IITs.

Though its a new IIT is much better than the nits and the bits.
