Please advise what are the preference amongst the branches & reputation of the IIT Roorke & IIT Guwahati?1. B.Tech ECE at IIT Roorkee2. B.Tech EE at IIT Roorkee3. B.Tech in CSE at IIT Guwahati ?Pls. advise your feedback based on the reputation / location/ future prospectus & earlier rankings ? Highly appreciate feedback.
As far as ECE vs CS, take CS. Lot of ECE guys try for CS job. Companies like Facebook paid 75 lakhs to 3 BHU CS guys, Google hired for US position all from BHU CS. They did not hire from ECE. Don't leave CS for ECE. You will regret it. Most of the ECE guys compete with CS guys for job but they are at disadvantage due to not having CS degree.
This is what I found for BHU but same story in any other IIT. Also BHU CS placement was better than Guwahati and Roorkee CS even without IIT tag. So logically they should do better with IIT tag. Over all I think BHU CS is much better than other options you are listing.
Anyway, now IIT-R is in same league and I think it will do very well. I was not aware of UOR earlier and only found out about it while talkign to IIT alumni. UOR was very good place so I don't take it it in wrong way. My comments were only in camparison with IIT's and IT-BHU before Roorkee got IIT tag. Roorkee deserved IIT tag and it will do very well in future. UOR produced many key people who are in public sector and pride to India. Many more to come with IIT-R.
Roorkee being oldest university definitely helped during the fromation of IIT but there was wide gulf between funding of Roorkee and IIT. I think that's why students were preferring IIT over UOR. it's good that it got converted because oldest university of India should not face trouble due to funding issue. Situation was worse during 90s. I wrote a school report about entrance exams in India in 1900-2000 so collected some information about it. My brother got into IIT this year so I was doing lot of research with him to put preference order. Hopefully, I can make it next year.
I did not mean that Roorkee guys profile are not good. I was only comparing same year graduates from IITs , IT-BHU and UOR from Linked in because I did not trust all information received by IIT alumni. I found out that all were doing well but UOR graduates were doing slightly worse if you take same year of graduation. Not everyone registers in Linked in but it has large number of alumni from every place so i thought it was good indicator of alumni standings.
I did not mean disrespect to UOR at all because initial directors of IITs were BHU and UOR pass outs. UOR has produced lot of graduates who were head of several PSU in India.
