None

Sir

I got 35202 as AIR and 5228 as Home state. So which NIT can I get? and any branch will do considering the sliding at the end of 1st year.

First of all Is sliding possible at the end of 1st year considering the new admission process (i.e. the internal sliding at the end of 5th round fr admitted candidates).

What is criteria and rules for allowing to slide at the end of 1st year.

Many people say that there must be vacant seats to slide at the end of 1st year, which if not possible then even with a very high and satisfactory CGPA will not help us to slide to get a better banch for sliding.

please do clarify what is the Institute's resposibility for making a student slide.

please reply immediatly

Go to the CCB website and check for yourself what courses you are getting. Play with the options and see. Please mention which state you are from. About the sliding after 1st yr - don't expect it. There are many things taken into account for that apart from CGPA and it is not easy. You will most probably, statistically speaking, end up studying your first course for its entire duration.Don't expect to change your branch so casually, it is not easy.

At that rank you won't get NIT-W. So, the HS rank is of no use.

Different institutes have different rules. Normally, the first rule is a minimum CGPA. Then, there is a limit as to how many students can go INTO a branch and how many can go OUT of a branch ie, the strength of a class can increase by some % and decrease by some %. Otherwise, there could be a rule in which the number of seats assigned by AICTE is the upper limit and seats which were left empty the previous year can be branch-changed into. Then, there is the fact of competition. Many students who are as intelligent as you are might be looking for a branch change too. It's not like 12th class where most people aren't serious: the competition for a branch change is much more stiff. Also, it's not about how much ghissai you put in... factors like quality of practical work, punctuality and even luck come into play. That's why I said don't expect a branch change. be prepared to study your branch for its entire duration.

Well, I'll tell you how people in IITs, NITs and BITS study. There are exceptions, but in general, you'd find out the syllabus some 12-15 hrs before the exam and start studying. Before that, your mind would be empty. You'd read the formula, solve some problems in the back. If you can't solve, you'll ask someone. The aim here is to solve problems correctly, not to understand the concept. Then, the same or very similar problems would come in the exam and you can easily reproduce the answer. But what if questions you never solved before came? Then, you're screwed. That's where luck becomes a factor - you're lucky if you know how to solve ALL the questions. I'll tell you another incident - I had a practical submission to make and my instructor was a very sadistic person. I knew he was going to cut half the practical marks without that submission. But for various reasons I was unable to complete my work and I showed up at the lab, damn worried. But guess what - he was on leave that day and we got the class off! At the end, I got an A+ in that subject by one mark - if I wasn't lucky enough for that guy to be on leave, I would've gotten a lower grade. And that matters when you want a branch change (of course this happened in 2nd yr so I didn't care so much).

You want an MBA?! Why didn't you say so before?! My advice - take the lowest branch you're getting. Your UG course does not matter at all for an MBA, only the institute matters. Plus, if you take a branch where everybody has low ranks, there won't be any pressure of studies and you can devote all your time to studying for MBA entrance exams. If it's an MBA that you want, forget branch change, prepare for CAT!

susobhan has given a very nice description of the life at IITs and NITs .one thing which u forgot to mention was the repetition of questions of previous years.u need to solve the question papers of previous semesters.because most of the times the questions get repeated(profs are too lazy to set new questions)...lol...xerox machine is the most imp thing which is needed during the exams...(to get the notes of the maggus..xeroxed)...or take the pics of the notes from ur mobile(if u have less time)..all these are done the night before the exam...life is so fun..will be missing it after an year..:(on a serious note i would say that take a lower branch and do a little bit of hard work...u'll get a good cgpa in that case and this is wat matters during the CAT..they call ppl with good cgpa and academics(especially IIMB,IIMK,IIMI).all the best.

well in nits seat change after 1st yr is abolished.......only in iits, bhu , bits , bit etc. still allow this freedom..............but are subjected to a lot of criteria...among which cgpa stands just one of them !!!

 let me tell you something.

if you want an mba dont start studying at the final year.

start working thru ur campus placement and then after a few yrs start studying for mba. now when the campus recruiters at your mba college come they will see that u have a good btech degree, a mba degree and a few yrs of experience which is much more valuable for mba recruiters than the non experienced guy and that will jumpstart your career

Hey u need a carefull look at my earlier comment......anyways let me tell you that I'm a die hard fan of ECE but CSE and EEE  and also Mech are ok for me...........If at all they are never available in any reputed college ,My plan is that join in those reputed colleges and slide into those in wich I'm interested ...or continue with that bad branch and at the end do MBA .But I'm really interested in doing even Phd in which I'm interested.............

BUT I HAVE A STRONG DOUBT::DO TRANSFER OR SLIDING  ARE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN ONLY IF THERE ARE VACANT SEATS IN THOSE DESIRED FOR SLIDING(CSE ECS EEE etc...)????????

and ZZZZZ hw do u know that sliding is abolished .?????????Im asking this becoz there is no formal declaration of that ..and nothing of that is mentiuoned in any of their respective info brochures ..........so hw do u confirm that?

its all rumour...notification for branch change has already been given for the present batch..when we were in first year...similar sort of rumours were flown...anyway...back to ur question...sliding can be done if the strength of the branch from which u r sliding does not fall below certain %age.and the strength of the branch TO which u r sliding should not be more than certain %age of the sanctioned strength.its a bit complicated.there is also one clause that a guy who is ranked higher(not the aieee rank..but the rank based on the cgpa) can stop the whole procedure of branch change if he himself isn't getting the branch of his choice...all in all its a bit difficult but still some ppl do change their branch..i would suggest that u don't keep branch change as a criteria for filling the choices for counselling..all the best.

thanks and yeah u all have proved that it is almost impossible with college life circumstances that branch change is wholly a difficult thing to rely upon........

so with 35,202 shud I opt for far remote NE NITs which r the only available in branches which I'm interested in ? and In gud old NITs I get brances like production engg. and Industrial engg.........so shud I opt for it? like ----is there any scope of them and if it is a conventional and more sought after, then I  even choose MTech or MS but if it is not so .....then just do MBA after that...

I have few doubts regarding the future scope or ever-greeness  in these branches i.e. to opt for it or not with a perpective of job opertunities and degree of craze and the kind or labour we have to put in while doing that job (core companies)

  1. chemical engg.
  2. industrial engg.
  3. production engg.
  4. bio-technology
  5. Metullurgical engg.

these not all these are that I'm getting in old NITs but I'm generally asking abt it ........

well as far as nit rourkela nd jamshedpur is concerned....the 1st thing officials say to freshers that there would be no branch change after 1st yr...........nd all most all nits hv also applied this policy.........if there r some exceptions i don't know abt it...am still to find some1 who has got his branch change in any of the nits..in recent years....*( am not talking abt internal sliding...am talking abt branch change after 1st yr)
