Hey guys, I am from CBSE. My school teachers say that NCERT books of Physics and chem are not suffiient for XII boards as nowadays they are asking more of concept based and analytical questions so its necessary to buy a reference book for phy and chem like Pradeep or Together or U-like etc. Is it true? R NCERT books not sufficient. I doubt it becoz X boards were completely from NCERTs. My teachers also say that the direct relation between NCERT and boards is till X only and not in XII. in XII, the NCERTs are just to give the syllabus and not matter. Is it true. Do I really need to buy a reference book? Please help. 5 pointers assured.

I THINK ur teacher is correct. i have given my half yearly and 1st preboard. in both, i found dat questions were not direct and were concept based. so i think u shud go for a refresher!! X was different. but for XII, u will require an extra book!!

Remember Cedric. Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory.

Yes, for Chemistry, the NCERT textbook is more than enough, or so my teacher says. I haven't even touched the Physics textbook, but I reckon that you should buy a refresher for physics.

for chem NCERT is more than enough... actually for chem even if you do the back questions you can get around 70% marks...splly for chapters like p block and all those surface chem and chem in everyday life etc... hey tell me have you been told to learn the structures of the compounds given in chem in everyday life?? for phy our teacher has given us many assignments and done many conceptual questions with us so i dnt think we need it... but yes for those 1 mark ques you can go through pradeep

NAAH. NCERT IS ALL IN ALL. WHAT SO EVER THEY ASK IN BOARDS CAN BE FOUND IN BETWEEN THE LINES OF UR NCERT BOOKS.............. YES, QUESTIONS ARE NOT DIRECT AND REQUIRE SOME ANALYTICAL REASONONG BUT SUCH QUESTIONS ARE ONLY 5% OF THE WHOLE QUESTION PAPER............. I SUGGEST U TO RELIGIOUSLY FOLLOW NCERT AND YES, GET SOME SAMPLE PAPER......... MOREOVER, AREN' T WE PREPARING FOR COMPETITIONS THEN WHAT IS THE PROBLEM OVER ANALYTICAL QUESTIONS??

Yup. Actually there is not much problem in conceptual questions. The main prob lies in the language and the content. there is step marking in boards. U must know what to write and how much to write and that's why I think we need those reference books.

If you read regularly by understanding the concepts then NCERT physics is enough. Most questions are directly from the textbook. If you cram at the last hour, then the reference books may come in handy. They give all derivations and definitions point by point. If you want to be a perfect scorer, learn your concepts right, practise working from reference books. I would say Pradeep is best. Borrow it from a friend for a week. That is enough.

I think Pradeep is the worst! It's presentation is as bad as it gets. You never know where the topic starts and where it ends! Thoroughly disordered and confusing.
I liked Modern's ABC better. But, for now, I am holding on to the NCERT Textbook and it would be hypocritical for me to suggest that you use reference books. Really, I have little idea about all this.
But one thing is for sure; Pradeep sucks!

You have HCV right? If you do, your concepts will be crystal clear, if you have studied properly from it. Study theory from NCERT, and use the concepts developed from HCV to answer the conceptual (Mostly 2 or 3 marks) questions.
I must say that the CBSE is doing a great job, in fact, their paper is now almost at the AIEEE level I think. The questions are really good nowadays. This years sample paper has quite a number of questions at the JEE level! I think they are now looking at the cream of the students... but whatever it is, it is for the good.
