A function f(x) increases on an interval I if f(b)>=f(a) for all b>a, where a,b in I. If f(b)>f(a) for all b>a, the function is said to be strictly increasing.

a function is said to be increasing if its value inc. as f(x) increases ..consider f(x)=x^2 ..... f(2)=4 f(5)=25 f(15)=225 ..its value is increasing as x is increasing .so its a increasing f(x) in general.. in terms of differential calculas see sumiran's answer
