yeah i think its 3,,see u draw the graph of sinx and cosx simultaneously,,,and for max consider only upper line of both curve u will see points dy/dx=0 at one points and at 2 points dy/dx is not defined,,,so we get 3 points  end points r not considered in critical points ,,,and hence answer is 3 critical points....

okh thrre is correct i also considered starting points as critical points but starting points nahin hote critical points so 3 is correct answer and sorry for that answer

see hemant there is another one point at which dy/dx of max{sinx,cosx} is zero,,,so find it mujhe dikh rahah hai tumko bhi dikhna chahiye ,,,baaki kal discuss karenge abhi gn to all,,,and hemant dhoondte raho :-)

Good work Hemant. The figure is enough to understand the problem.

 

critical points are at x = pi/4, pi/2, 5pi/4
