Gaussion Surface is an imaginary type figure asuumed around the charge distribution usually symmetric so that we can easily apply GAUSS LAW

A Gaussian surface is a closed two-dimensional surface through which a flux or electric field is to be calculated
rate if satisfied

@mikans U SAID THT GAUSSIAN SURFACE IS A TWO DIMENSIONAL SURFACE.IF IT IS SO, THEN I MUST BELIEVE THT WE CANNOT DRAW A CYLINDER OR A CUBE OR A SPHERE AS A GAUSSIAN SURFACE.ARE U TRYING TO SAY SO. IF SO, PLZ.. CORRECT UR INFORMATION COZ. GAUSSIAN SURFACE IS ALWAYS A THREE DIMENSIONAL FIGURE COZ. THE MOST NECESSARY CONDITION FOR APPLYING GAUSS LAW IS THT THE SURFACE SHOULD BE CLOSED AND A TWO DIMENSIONAL SURFACE IS NEVER CLOSE.

ACTUALLY GAUSSIAN SURFACE IS AN IMAGINARY CLOSED SURFACE AROUND A CHARGE OR CHARGE DISTRIBUTION IN ORDER TO APPLY GAUSS LAW. NOW, WHILE TAKING A GAUSSIAN SURFACE WE MUST KEEP TWO THINGS IN MIND. 1] THE SURFACE MUST BE CLOSED. 2] THE SURFACE SHOULD BE SYMMETRIC ABOUT THE CHARGE OR CHARGE DISTRIBUTION SUCH THT ALL THE POINTS ON ITS SURFACE ARE EQUIDISTANT FROM THE CHARGE DISTRIBUTION SO THT THE ELECTRIC FIELD ON ALL THE POINTS ON THE GAUSSIAN SURFACE IS ALWAYS SAME.IF IT IS NOT SO, ANY PART OF THE SURFACE SHOULD BE PARELLEL TO THE DIRECTION OF ELECTRIC FIELD SO THT HE FLUX THROUGH THT PART IS ZERO.
RATE IF SATISFIED OR U CAN ENQUIRE FURTHER.

But is it tat only closed surfaces satisfying above condition 2] become a Gaussian surface?
Actually any closed region around a charge distribution can b regarded a gaussian surface...right?..Please clarify...

actually gaussian surfaces r taken becoz on them the charge distribution is uniform
which is not possible in real
simple.................

@indr DEFINITELY. ANY REGION CAN BE A GAUSSIAN BUT AS I TOLD U GAUSSIAN SURFACE IS ONLY AN IMAGINARY CONCEPT TO CALCULATE ELECTRIC FIELD AROUND ANY CHARGE DISTRIBUTION USING GAUSS LAW BUT IF U DO NOT TAKE GAUSSIAN SURFACE LIKE I HAVE MENTIONED IN MY PREVIOUS POSTS SATISFYING THOSE CONDITIONS U WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CALCULATE ELCTRIC FIELD USING GAUSS LAW AND THEN WHT IS THE USE OF DRAWING THE GAUSSIAN SURFACE. THEREFORE FOR A GAUSSIAN SURFACE THE ABOVE SAID CONDITIONS MUST BE MET TO USE IT.
RATE IF SATISFIED NOW OR ITS MY PLEASURE TO DISCUSS FURTHER.
