An air filled parallel plate capacitor is to be constructed which can store 12 C of charge when operated at 1200 V.What can be the minimum plate area of the capacitor? The dielectric strengh of air is 3 X 106 V/m..

Hey mastermind890 , I got the solution !!! I was confused why dielectric srength is given . But when I read the theory , I understood . Dielectruc strength is the min. E at which breakdown occurs . Now , E =Q/AEo ( E=electric field b/w plates ) When E is minimum , then A is maximum . therefore , A =Q/EEo Put values , and we get the answer as 0.45 m2 . I hope u understood !!!!!

Hey prathika ! I was also confused by the way the author has solved the que. . I tried to do this by series - parallel method , but couldn't . Then I asked my teacher , and he advised me to avoid such hard lengthy subjective problems , as these r never asked in competitive exams . So , I hav left this que. . But still , if u get to know the solution , then pls tell me !!!!!
