a thin metal plate P is inserted between the plates of a parallel plate capacitor of capacity C in such a way that its edges touch the two plates.the capacity now becomes:
(a) C/2
(b) 2C
(c) zero
(d) infinite
answer is (d)

It has to be infinite. When U have connected the 2 plates by a conductor, it gets converted into a pure conductor now. Means now effectively there is no region of insulation between the 2 plates. Hence D=0 in the formula for capacitance, C=(epsilon)A/D. So, C=infinity.

as it's a metal plate(conductor)....and it touches those edges...so.....net charge now on capacitor is 0
so it's no more a capacitor now.....so capacity becomes infinite

Also, when u connect both the plates with a conductor, the potential on both plates becomes equal as potential remains constant in a conductor. So, it means that potential difference=0. And Q=CV or C=Q/V. As V=0, so C=infinity. :D
