when we earth any conducting object, do the side of the conductor being earthed make any difference. for eg, when there are three conducting plates placed parallel to each other and a charge Q is given to the middle one, and the third plate is earthed, will the charge on each side of the plates depend on whether the inner side of the third plate is earthed or the outer side?

noit shouldn't matter.......because any excess charge in the conducting body or bodies which are in contact will be removed by the earth..............
since the plates are paralllel.....i don't think it will effect the other plates...........'......
it totaly depens on the distance btw the plates

why not. let say the inner sice of the third plate has charge q.the the facing side of the middle plates will have -q.the other side Q
+q. and -(Q+q) on the facng side of the first one. its other side has again (Q+q)

the concept of grounding means transfer of charge to ground....
moreover a plate means a flat object....i didn't understand by the meaning inner side......
