aa rite u r askin from Brilliant paper arent u???well even i didnt understand ...tthey gave it as Potential is much greater than tht req to ionise air???means wat?? ididnt get it...

ya that may work....capacitance is R/k (where r is radius and k is inverse of 4pi.ep.)
and potential is Q/C...
C is of the order 10^-11 and Q is of the order 1
so potential is of order 10^11...and ionising potential of air is approx. 10^6 V...so air will be ionoised and some charge will be neutralised...

but how is there any rel bet pot and ionisation of air..and charge to be given to a sphere????well place tht sphere in space and then ......i didnt get their expl....
