I did read in a book that when two bodies are rubbed together one of them loses elect. and gets +vely charged and other -vely charged .but why does a body having less work function has to lose elect.while rubbing and one with higher w gain elect. please explain !

Here the point 2 note is that when 2 objects r rubbed, the substance that gains e- , always gains it & substane losing e- always lose it. Now work function means the energy 2 b given 2 eject the electrons out of substances ( just like photoelectric effect). So, the substance having lesser W.F. loses e- easily. While the energy comes by rubbing. The problem is to take out elctron from lattice , not in giving it.When one loses e- , the other gains it & hence both bodies get charged.
Rate me if satisfied.
