It means total energy of a configuration having charges per unit volume .
I don't think there is any expression for that.Charge density has an expression.

i m sorry it means energy present per unit volume
the expression is u=U/Ad Ad is the volume
where U is the potential energy of the field
energy density of electric field of a parallel plate capacitor is u=1/2(epsilon0E2)
