hi.. a small confusion.. wat happens to the force btw 2 charges wen a brass plate is inserted in between them..according to me force is inversely proportional to permmitivity, and if the relative permittivity of brass is more than one then the force should decrese..am i right or wrong??coz in arihant they have given that the force will increase.. thanx.. ram.

i guess u are right i have also studied that force has to dec coz when we integrate small force with air as med and then by using brass the force is less in second case

The answer depends on the situtation given. If the brass plate covers the entire gap between the two charges, then what you said holds good. If the plate covers only a part of the distance, then what you said might not hold good. There must be a formula for this (I know the formula for the force when a dielectric partially covers the gap, though I dont know for a conductor).

the force will increase.this is becauz brass is a good metal.feild inside a metal is o.so logically thinking the thikness of the plate need to be reduced from the distance bwt the charges.as distance decr force increases square times. this explanation is becuz of the underlined feature rate me plz
