Q.
The ends of a coil of 40ohm resistance are connected to a voltmeter, reading 6V.the coil sis suspended in oil for 15 min and its temperature rises through 20 degree centigrade.find the mass of the oil, given its specific heat capacity = 0.2 kcal/kg/degree cent. the thermal capacity of the calorimeter may be neglected.

the answer given in my state board book is 38.6g.

it is not important where u stand, but in which direction u are moving

the ans wud be Heat= V^2t/R
(36 x 15 x 60)/40= 810 Joules= 0.192 cal

:.Let mass=m
C=0.2 kcal/kgC

:. m* C (sp. heat cap.)* 20K=0.192
4m=0.192
m= 0.048 kg= 48 g

sorry for the prev. mistake dint read the question proply

rate of transfer of heat = V^2/R = 36/40 = 9/10
total heat transfered = 9/10 x 15 x 60 = 810J = 810/4.18 cal
0.19377 = m x C x dT
m = 0.19377 / (20x0.2)
=0.048Kg = 48g
