Civil n Meta all have their own scopes int he respective fields. but i'm afraid, under the current times, not many of the dudes from both departments go for the cre jobs. Of all the civilians (as we used ot call them), a lot of them have taken up the IIM route, i.e. gone for further studies a.k.a MBA and eventually moved to management jobs in corporates, not related to the core stream at all. In other cases, people have moved to software. This accounts for almost 70% of the people in these departments. Rest who were actually in love with the streams have moved to further studies in U.S. I'll try to request have some civil /metallurgy person from IIT, to come here and answer this query fr you (snice this is not my deptt). hold on for a day or so more.
cheers ~Admin

There is a tremendously growing demand of civil engineers due to several mega construction projects and plans undertaken by private companies like Reliance, Parshawnath, Birla etc, Civil engineering is a broad field of engineering dealing with the planning, design, construction, maintenance and management of physical infrastructure networks. This includes fixed structures, or public works, as they are related to earth, water, or civilization and their processes. Most civil engineering today deals with power plants, bridges, roads, railways, structures, water supply, irrigation, the natural environment, sewer, flood control, transportation and traffic. And as far as the splendid increase in corporate and public sectors are concerned the demand of civil engineers wll grow and will prove to be boon for them. This was not so some 5-6 years ago.
In case of metallurgy too the field is having scope in R and D related to materials science and other construction related works.

The Scientist does not study nature because it is useful; he studies it because he delights in it, & he delights in it because it is beautiful. If nature were not beautiful, it would not be worth knowing, life would not be worth living. Ofcourse I do not here speak of that beauty that strikes the senses, the beauty of qualities & appearances; not that I undervalue such beauty, far from it, but it has nothing to do with science; I mean that profounder beauty which comes from the harmoniuos order of the parts, & which a pure intelligence can grasp. |
