If two wires of same dimension but different resistivities 1 and 2 are connected in parellel then what is the equivalent resistivity of the combination? Sir,do you think the answer is 1 2 / 2 ( 1 + 2) ?Correct me if I am wrong.

hi lolita........wot i think is......since dimensions r the same soo R is proportional to rho. wires r connected in parallel.....n if equivalent resisitivity is denoted by rho then...........1/rho = 1/rho1 + 1/rho2 sooo....v ll get rho = rho1.rho2/(rho1+rho2) sorry if i m wrong......but i think dis is the answer :)

when resistances are conncted in parallel, then 1/ R = 1/ R1 + 1/R2 also R1 = 1 l/a and R2 = 2 l/a let be the equivalent resistivity , then R = l/a

Oh o...... No Ruhi you are not right. It is too simple and I should have slapped myself.Your answer is absolutely wrong .But this expert !!!What is is his name ......oh....Magic..whatever.., you have ignored the key sentence "If two wires of same dimension but different resistivities" and "connected in parellel ".When they are connected in parallel their combined cross section becomes 2a.

Miss Lolita, I have done the very same thing, what ruhi has said..infact the answers are even same.... and let me tell u , joining two wires in parallel connection, wont get the cross-section area 2a... just see it properly once, before saying PS: and my username is magiclko (pronounced as magic L K O )....and my signature contains my name "manasi"...
